Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Edition review

Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Edition review

Before we start the review, we'll take a quick summary of the story of Red Dead Redemption 2 for people who haven't yet had a chance to try it on the console: RDR2 takes place 12 years before its first installment, and in it we play Arthur Morgan, the right-hand man of gangster Dutch van der Linde. The game begins without long introduction, as Arthur, a Dutch and their companions find themselves forced to flee from the authorities after things spiraled out of control in their last blackwater robbery, and they left behind an enormous fortune that they took years to collect. From here the events of the game begin to develop and your main goal remains to find shelter and help the gang members to settle, and you spend more than 60 hours knowing how the events will end. You can see the original review of our entire site by clicking here, where you will see that the game received a rating of 9.8 / 10 and considered it and we still consider it the best open world game released for the current generation of console devices. But does the computer version also deserve this title now as well? Read on to find out the answer.

Initially, Rockstar Games' decision to release the game on the computer was not a surprise, especially after we saw the overwhelming and continuous success of GTA V so far on the computer since September 2013. The game has so far had a very large number of players and its content has increased significantly over the years. So it comes as no surprise that Rockstar Game is seeking another long-term success and entertaining experience for PC gamers.

Among the features that developers emphasized in the PC version in terms of graphics were increased draw distance or distance drawing, increased lighting quality, improved reflections and shadows, improved rendering for trees, plantings and furs, as well as increased resolution of detail in elements such as ice trails. , In addition to the game's support for HDR technology. All of this is already in place, and it has been implemented efficiently. But after we played for several hours with the computer version, we can assure you of two points: The first is that this version is very demanding in terms of the capabilities of the graphics card, and the second is that the game suffers from several technical problems that need some improvement. We played RDR2 on a PC with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, which was a requirement that Rockstar Games had recommended prior to the game's release.

Unfortunately the gameplay wasn't always stable at 60 FPS, but we were able to average around 40 FPS at 1080p and all the settings are Ultra. You can play RDR2 game with normal settings from start to finish, but you will suffer a little from some technical problems and you will have to resort to other solutions that improve your experience, either through the settings of the game or through the settings of the computer itself. After the release of the computer version and the many complaints, Nvidia recommended that you can play the game on Ultra settings well and be able to reach the speed of 60 FPS without any problems and enjoy this wonderful experience, it is recommended to use a GeForce GTX 2060 card or later instead of the GTX 770 as a minimum or the Recommended GTX 1060 which Rockstar recommended initially.

What brings us to the technical problems (glitches) plaguing the game. Many players encountered technical problems in this version of the game: including the freezes, which stopped the game for a full 5 or 6 seconds. Some players also reported crashes, and we ourselves faced some unexpected technical problems from a game like this: There are times when Arthur is riding a horse but the horse is hidden and not visible underneath, as there have been cases where we find trees suddenly starting to vibrate on his own, in addition to Shadows that appear and disappear around you even as you stand. The strangest defect we witnessed was opening the weapons list on its own in the middle of a battle, which led to an involuntary selection of the pistol and we had to exit the game's main menu and load again to be able to finish the task as required without the pistol.

But excluding these problems, RDR 2 on the computer offers very impressive graphics compared to the console versions, everything in it is more accurate and beautiful, the color tones are more varied and vibrant, and the details (textures) are clearer. There were many moments when, while playing, we felt a desire to watch the sunset, and we photographed many charming scenes inside the game environment through the new Photo Mode in the computer version, knowing that there are more powerful screen cards than the ones we used. Thus, what Rockstar promised us in terms of graphics is there, but this is accompanied by unexpected problems faced by many players, including people using the GTX 2060 and stronger.

In terms of playing style, there is nothing new except for the control methods, which we had no problem with because its buttons are many and spread intuitively, and this is normal for computer games. The advantage here is that the HUD always reminds you of the task of each button. The mechanics of the gameplay are just as strong and solid as we saw with the PS4 and XB1 versions. Perhaps the additional thing this time and directly related to the gameplay is, of course, the content of the game itself. The computer version of the game comes with 3 new Bounty Hunter missions, two Gang Hideouts in both Gaptooth Breach and Solomon's Folly, in addition to two Treasure maps that connect you to gold bars and other rewards, in addition to a new mission called "To The Ends of The Earth." ". All of these additions are welcome, of course, because with a large and picturesque world like RDR2, the more we can do, the more fun and immersive we are to play.

In addition to game content, Rockstar Games increased our choice of gameplay, not in terms of gameplay mechanics, but in terms of mods, weapons and horses. We can use mods as we wish in the single-player phase as long as their content is licensed, but the online content cannot be used and the mod maker cannot create it with the aim of earning through it. If you want to play as an eagle, as a Joker, or as a non-playable character, you can do so. Thanks to the mods, you will also be able to penetrate walls and doors, change the time and atmosphere when you want, and heal your character (heal) with the click of a button, the possibilities are many.

This copy contains 4 weapons that were not in the console versions, including the semi-automatic pistol (M1899 Pistol), the Evans Repeater (high capacity rifle), and the Le Mat Revolver (a revolver from which you can shoot rifle shots). As for mobility, there are 7 new horses in the game, which vary in speed, lightness and strength depending on your needs, including Perlino Andalusian, a strong horse ideal for hunting, which we saw previously in Red Dead Online only before it became available now in the story stage on the computer.

With this review, we tried to highlight only the most important new things that we saw in the computer version of Dead Redemption 2. And if there is anything we didn't mention in the review, make sure it is positive and consistent with our review of the console version. Do not forget to download the companion app for the game, in addition to the Social Club that will help you to follow up the statistics on your experience of the game.

Conclusion.

Due to the technical problems that we and many other players have faced with the RDR2 game on the computer, the game received a rating slightly lower than the original console version. Other than that, the game is great in every respect, be it the graphics, the gameplay, the game environment, the character design, the story, the voice acting and the soundtrack (really these elements are all phenomenal and make RDR2 a near-perfect game). Which is why Rockstar frustrated us a little bit because it released the game in a state that made the player feel that no one had tested it enough on the computer before it became available to players. But since the developers regularly release new updates to it, we can advise you to wait until all technical problems are fixed before purchasing them, because we are confident that if we re-evaluate them after all the repairs, we will give it a 10/10 result without hesitation.
